The month of May has been regarded as National Teen Safety Driving Month to emphasize the increase in car accidents involving teen’s texting while driving. New County Motor Car Group and Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) are once again partnering together to bring awareness about driving safety and to encourage teens to make the pledge to not text and drive. SADD is the leading peer-to-peer youth education and prevention organization across the nation run by volunteers. May is an important time for SADD to educate teens about safe driving as big events for teens like prom and graduation take place this month.

On Saturday, Pete Keast, the General Manager of New County BMW, announced that New County BMW has agreed to donate $1 to the CT chapter of SADD for each person who takes the pledge, “Contract for Life.” The program was created by New County BMW for teens and their parents to take the pledge to not text and drive. In 2012, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported about 421,000 people have been involved in car accidents caused by a distracted driver, 3,328 were fatalities and 11% were under the age of 20. Of those drivers, 21% were distracted by the use of their cell phones.
