Remembering 9/11 Twenty Years Later

Posted on 09/11/21

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the horrific September 11 attacks that shook the bedrock of our democracy. The acts of hate against our nation led to the loss of nearly 3,000 innocent lives and injured thousands of others. That day, nineteen terrorists hijacked four planes destined for destruction. Two aircraft targeted the center of American economic power, The World Trade Center. Another at the heart of the United States defense apparatus, the Pentagon. The fourth aircraft, flight 93 was expected to be heading toward the U.S. capitol building but was overcome by several brave passengers.

The events that befell our country on that Tuesday morning were intended at diminishing our American resolve and our freedoms. What ensued were millions of Americans joining in one voice to mourn and rebuild. Evil did not prevail. Our democracy grew stronger and the American spirit thrived.

Let us never forget the selfless and courageous acts of police, paramedics, and firefighters who bravely pushed forward even in the direst of circumstances. Even as fires smoldered and building debris blanketed roads, first responders fulfilled their duty of service to their community.
