Trump Plans To Continue His Fight To End DACA

Posted on 06/24/20

This past Friday, during a series of tweets, President Trump continued to attack the supreme court while suggesting he will continue his fight to end DACA and ensure congress finds a new solution for “dreamers.” While referencing football, Trump stated that the justices simply punted back the case to his administration to provide new documents as to why the program should end. “The Supreme Court asked us to resubmit on DACA, nothing was lost or won. They ‘punted,’ much like in a football game (where hopefully they would stand for our great American Flag). We will be submitting enhanced papers shortly to properly fulfill the Supreme Court’s ruling & request of yesterday,” Trump wrote.

“I have wanted to take care of DACA recipients better than the Do-Nothing Democrats, but for two years they refused to negotiate – They have abandoned DACA. Based on the decision the Dems can’t make DACA citizens. They gained nothing!” Trump continued. The Obama era program which shields immigrants that came to this country as minors by the parents from deportation has been under threat since 2017.

The supreme court’s 5-4 decision had its very own rebuttal by the president suggesting that the merits of the program were not the reason why they sided with continuing the program. On the contrary, the administration failed to bring enough legal justification as to why the program should end. Over a year ago, the Democratic led-house voted on a bill that would allow nearly two-million undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship, including dreamers. Where the Trump and the Obama administration failed, newly elected house members recognized the importance of immigrants to the vitality of The United States economy and culture. The new legislation has failed to reach the floor in the Senate which would allow nearly 10 years of permanent residency for dreamers.

Any further submissions as the justification for the end of the program will surely be met with legal challenges and fail to be resolved before the election.
